Temecula’s public schools continue to rank among the highest in state-administered achievement tests. The Temecula Valley Unified School District lead Riverside County in student achievement for the eighth year in 2007 with a district API (Academic Performance Index) of 819.
The TVUSD has 33 schools, serves more than 28,000 students, and employs just under 2,800 people.
The district has 18 elementary schools, 6 middle schools, 3 high schools 1 continuation high school, 1 independent study high school, 1 home school academy (grades K-8), 2 charter schools and 1 adult school.
One of Riverside County’s oldest school systems, the Lake Elsinore Unified School District operates 14 elementary schools, five middle schools, three comprehensive high schools and four alternative education schools. A 28th school, Earl Warren Elementary, opened in August 2007.
Over the last several years, Lake Elsinore Unified has seen a sharp increase in enrollment thanks to the fast pace of residential development in the region. To match that growth, the district has opened three new schools in the last three years: Lakeside High School, Lakeland Village Middle School and Ronald Reagan Elementary School.
In August 2006, scores released by the California Department of Education showed that Lake Elsinore Unified was the second-highest improving school district out of 23 districts in Riverside County.
And while the district is beginning to receive recognition as one of Riverside County’s best, so too are some of its schools. In April 2007, only two county high schools were given the prestigious California Distinguished School designation by state education officials: Elsinore and Temescal Canyon high schools, both Lake Elsinore Unified schools. They joined Luiseno Elementary School, which received the honor when elementary schools were chosen in 2006, as the district’s current Distinguished Schools.

The student population for 2007-2008 is 21,265 and district employees numbering 1,777.
